The Road of Hell
By ‘n kruising sonder borde het ‘n taxi stilgehou en ir my gewys ek
Ek
So 90 km voor Marsabit het ek my tweede val binne twee dae gehad.
Ek groet, sonverbrand, ontwater, vol krampe.
The last two days were eventful.
First my collision with the taxi.
At one of the many unmarked crossings a taxi from right indicated with his lights that I could go. From left was no traffic. As I passed the standing taxi suddenly another taxi appeared on the right of the first taxi, screaming over the junction. I tried to swerve but was hit on the front wheel. The impact threw the bike over to the right and me flying into the tar.
The handlebar was bent and I had to go back to Jungle Junction where Chris fixed the damage within half an hour. The fork was fortunately not bent.
Had the taxi hit me half a meter to the right it would have been full on my right leg . . .
Late afternoon I crossed the equator.
The road to Marsabit, from Isiolo, is a real Road of Hell. It took me 11 hours to complete the 250km. It was sand, corrugation, stones, stones and the last 20 km mud.
I had my second crash in two days when on red lava rock, I had a text book crash. Unfortunately the one pannier was ripped off. FridayI have to fix the pannier before I can leave on the second part of the Road of Hell.
From Marsabit I greet you, sun-burnt, dehydrated and sore.
