Lodie - Marsabit tot by Moyale (Kenia/Ethiopiƫ grens)

Foto 5: So stel ek my Mars voor.
Foto 6: Die manne jaag!

Lodie: The harsh reality of living in Africa

Marsabit, from where we leave this morning, lies in the dry northern Kenya desert region.

Two rainy seasons passed without any rain.

It is dry.

There are still wells with water in and around Marsabit. To these wells farmers from far lying areas are bringing their cattle and goats for water. The cattle look like walking skeletons.

The soil is like powder. Two harvests of maize and beans turned into nothing.

Like last year there is no water in the taps. We three had to get water from a well to wash ourselves.

This morning, for the first time ever, the Christian and Muslim communities in Marsabit will join hands in a prayer meeting for rain. It will take place on an open field across from where we are staying now.

Although the people are as friendly as ever all conversation have one central theme: It must rain soon!

That is the other side of the coin of living in Africa, a reality, which consists of dust and sand and thin children and a constant worry about food and water.

Being confronted with this harsh reality let us, who are living in another world, take stock of our blessings like a swimming pool at home, water from a tap. and supermarkets from where we can stock up for our daily living.

And when you are reading this, join in prayer with the people of Marsabit for rain.

urgent reply

  How's work on your end?
This had to come in a hurry and it has left me in a devastating state.I am in some terrible situation and I'm really going to need your urgent help. Yesterday, unannounced, I came down to Nigeria  for something urgent. Well i actually got robbed in the Hotel I booked in and they made away with my wallet (which included my cash, diaries and complementary cards). My cell phones were not brought along since I did not get to roam them before coming over. The phone cables have been burnt including internet connection cables and the Hotel's database has been compromised as well. So all I can do now is pay cash and get out of here quickly. I do not want to make a scene of this which is why I did not call the office or my house, this is embarrassing enough. Please I want you to lend me a sum of $1,130 just to clear my Hotel bills and get the next plane home. The Consulate only cleared me of my traveling documents and ticketing since I came in as a tourist and not on official purpose. Please be rest assured that I'd have your money reimbursed to you immediately I get home. Please you can have it sent via Western union money transfer to my name and on this address right here.
Name - Annami Mailovich
Address - 101 Freeman lane
City - Lagos
Country - Nigeria
Zip Code - 23401
Thank you so much, please as soon as you are done sending me the money, I need you to help me write out the Mtcn details giving to you by the Western union agent or better still help me scan a copy of the receipt.
I am looking forward to hear from you.
Thank you so much,

Annami Mailovich

By die ewenaar!

Goeie more!

So lyk die finale proef.

Vandag behoort ons te vertrek. Behoort.

Op hierdie Maandagoggend het ek so 'n stukkie nostalgie oor my. Ek weet nie hoekom nie. Miskien omdat ek oor hierdie week se ry voel soos ek oor my tweede Comrades gevoel het. 'n Mens weet wat wag ...

Of mens noodwendig uitsien?
